When it comes to working out, there is no one-size-fits-all plan. A workout routine should be customized based on an individual’s personal goals, interests, and needs. Check out the considerations below to help set you on the path to an effective exercise routine that will help you meet your fitness goals in no time.
Consider your goals
The first step to developing a workout routine is to consider your “why.” Having a set of goals in mind before entering the gym can be very important in developing a workout routine, because it helps determine what the workout itself should consist of. If you have a goal of building muscle, your workout routine would be different than if you wanted to tone muscle. If you want to run farther on a treadmill, your workout routine would look different than if your goal is to lift heavier. Of course, it is always great to have more than one goal too.
Mark up your calendar
The next step is to look at your calendar and figure out when your workouts will fit into your daily schedule. If you’re like many others and work eight hours a day, then finding time outside of that time frame is key. Try waking up one hour earlier or heading to the gym right after work. Even if you have a more flexible schedule, writing down a time for your workout or blocking off time on your calendar will encourage you to complete it. Don’t forget to leave days open for rest and recovery!
Be consistent
The key to sticking to any routine is maintaining consistency. Remember that progress cannot always be seen or felt overnight. Visually keeping track of gym visits will keep the motivation flowing and will encourage consistency. No matter what your active goals are, it is always important to take things one day at a time and show up whenever you can.
Meet with a personal trainer
